Aloha and Welcome to Waimea Country School!
Waimea Country School, where children love to learn, inspires students to become lifelong learners. Our school culture and learning program are guided by our mission to educate children to become confident, responsible, and compassionate people, and our graduates leave us well-prepared and ready to continue to learn and thrive.
Anyone who knows us will tell you that Waimea Country School is a special place. At first, that uniqueness may seem hard to define, but spend a little time with us, and you will see it shining through in so many ways. It starts with our small school size, allowing us to all know each other – every student and every staff and faculty member – so well. It’s that warm feeling of ‘ohana, and the way our students relate to and look out for one another. It’s our friendly campus, with cozy spaces in each classroom and plenty of outdoor learning areas. It’s our small classes and impressive faculty to student ratio, with two full time teachers (lead and associate) in every class, and a maximum of 16 students per class. It’s in the way our core values of child-centered learning, inclusion, and respect permeate everything we do. And it is especially evident in our multiage philosophy, where everyone fits in, and everyone learns individually and together in an environment that is inviting, creative, and academically challenging.
The seeds of my journey as an educator are rooted in my personal love for learning and exploration. I have always found joy in curiosity and learning, and I believe every child deserves that experience. My family chose this school for our elder child for all the reasons listed above. I started my education career here as a new teacher the following year, the same year our younger child started kindergarten. We all grew up here together, and now, 18 years later, I am honored, excited, and appropriately humbled to have the privilege and joy of leading this exceptional small school into the future.
I encourage you to visit and experience firsthand what makes Waimea Country School special.
‘Imua!
