Master Class Options
Included in the ticket price, each guest has the option of participating in a Master Class held in the hour prior to the start of the event at 5:00 pm. Each class has a maximum number of participants and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Guests do not have to participate in a Master Class to attend the event.

Lei Making
Ashtin Hart, longtime member of Halau o Kukui Aloha o Kohala led by Kumu Leia, leads this Master Class to teach some basics of making lei. Each participant will leave the class with a lei of their creation.
No experience necessary; all materials provided.

Pretty Pastels
Learn about chalk, oil, and pencil pastels, and practice blending & shading techniques, layering, and highlights as you create your own mini-masterpiece. Instructor Sui Lan Gomez is a local artist, former WCS teacher, current WES teacher, and mom to two WCS graduates.
No experience necessary; all materials provided.

Hula
Join our own Kumu Leia for a session of hula. All ages, genders, and experience levels are welcome to participate in this fun and informative class. Kumu Leia Lawrence has been teaching hula since 2011 and has been our kumu at WCS since 2014. Leia is the mother of two WCS graduates, and served as a member of our WCS Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2023. Her warm heart fills our school with aloha!

Chicken Butchery – CLASS FULL!
Save money by learning whole-chicken butchery. You will learn how to break down a chicken from start to finish and leave with a new lifelong skill to use in your home kitchen. Your instructor, Mills Stoval, founded the Waimea Butcher Shop in 2016. He focuses on utilizing products from Hawaii island and has worked with hundreds of ranchers, farmers, chefs, restaurants and other local businesses showcasing quality local products.

Dance the Hustle
Come learn the hustle, alone or with a partner. This upbeat dance was one of the hottest styles in the 70’s and 80’s and it’s making a comeback! Founded in jazz dance and using both original disco music and current uptempo music, this dance will have you spinning, kicking your feet and smiling from ear to ear. We promise this will be a blast!

Homebrewing of Mead
Possibly one of the oldest known alcoholic beverages, mead (or honey wine) is now trendy, and you can brew it in the comfort of your own home. Explore the science of yeasts, honeys, and flavorings with CFHT scientists and amateur mead homebrew enthusiasts Greg Barrick and Tom Benedict, both also parents of WCS graduates. Participants will learn where to acquire a homebrewing kit and how to get started.

Philosophy of Yoga
Ruthie Bernaert and Jayendra Hanley have been teaching hatha yoga for over 25 years and have taught many workshops and teacher trainings around the world. Yoga is very popular today, but you might wonder: “What is Yoga?” Ruthie and Jay will lead us in a discussion about some key concepts in yoga, and we will teach an easy “stand and stretch” exercise, along with a breath awareness practice, that anyone can do to refresh and renew your energy for the day.
